Liquorice Root is an expectorant and often modern cough syrups include it as an ingredient. Inhibiting Helicobacter pylori, it is used as an aid for healing stomach, mouth, duodenal and peptic ulcers, and in moderate amounts may soothe an upset stomach.

There have been hundreds of substances identified in Liquorice, including compounds called flavonoids and various plant estrogens (phytoestrogens). The herb's key therapeutic compound, glycyrrhizin (which is 50 times sweeter than sugar) exerts numerous beneficial effects on the body, making Liquorice a valuable herb. It also contains powerful antioxidants.

40 drops of liquid with a small amount of water 2 to 3 times daily

Ingredients

Oral drops containing tincture of Glycyrrhiza glabra (Licorice Root).
20 drops contains the equivalent of 250mg of dried plant.

Notes

Do not confuse with licorice confectionery which contains very little, if any, licorice and is in fact flavoured by anise.

Can cause water retention and raised blood pressure. Prolonged use should be avoided if you suffer from high blood pressure.

Can cause mild adrenal stimulation.
