Damiana leaves have traditionally been used as an aphrodisiac by the native peoples of Mexico (inc. the Mayans) to help boost sexual potency. Today the herb is still used by both men and women.

Historically this herb has been thought to help relieve anxiety and nervousness, especially if these symptoms have a sexual component.
